A community group was formed in 1997 in Cumberland County, NJ, with the main purpose of self-supporting individuals with diabetes. It was named “Diabeticos Hispanos”.
The mission of Diabeticos Hispanos/Perfil Latino TV, Inc. is to improve living conditions through education in general. Through a television program, as well as through community classes, events and presentations, we offer a variety of services, particularly but not exclusively to the Latino community.
DH/PLTV, Inc. believes in reaching out to our community and is always eager to help bridge the cultural gap. We support and help host educational, social and health programs to educate local communities.
The television program, “Perfil Latino”, is a branch of a 501 (c) 3 organization that educates about health and social issues and works to increase cultural awareness and bridge bilingual understanding. DH/Perfil Latino TV, Inc. was incorporated in 2001, and has since been dedicated to helping local communities in Southern New Jersey. This is why the slogan of the TV Program “Perfil Latino” is “El programa de la comunidad para la comunidad”.
We offer Workshops and Health Management classes and personal development session through VisionYes Enterprise at local community centers and we also refer people to human service resources in the area. Since the late 1990’s, we have participated and supported the organization of yearly celebrations for the local Latino communities for special holidays such as Latin Heritage History Month (including Adelante, our signature gala recognition and fundraiser event), Multicultural Art Exhibits, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and December 12 for the Virgin of Guadalupe, Cinco de Mayo, Mexican Independence Day and more.
